Following their complete recordings of Chopin and Schumann for cello and piano, Sol Gabetta and Bertrand Chamayou continue their exploration of the Romantic repertoire with the complete works of Mendelssohn for this combination. This double album combines the composer’s works with «Songs Without Words» written especially for the occasion by four contemporary composers (Wolfgang Rihm, Heinz Holliger, Francisco Coll and Jörg Widmann), echoing the Song Without Words Mendelssohn’s Op. 109. Recorded at the Philharmonie de Paris on period instruments, including a Stradivarius from 1717 and a Blüthner piano from 1856.
